We’re often asked, “What can I do to extend the vase life of my bouquet?” The good news is that a few simple steps can make a big difference in how long you’re able to enjoy your blooms.
1. Start with a clean vase
Make sure your vase is very clean—clean enough that you’d feel comfortable drinking from it. This helps prevent bacteria from shortening the life of your flowers.
2. Refresh the water regularly
Change the water every other day to keep it fresh and clear.
3. Recut the stems
After about three days, trim a small amount off the bottom of each stem. Some flowers can form a seal at the cut end, and recutting helps water continue to move up the stem.
4. Keep flowers out of direct sunlight
Place your arrangement in a spot with indirect light. Direct sun and heat can cause flowers to fade more quickly.
These simple tips will help you enjoy your blooms for as long as possible. Keep in mind that some flowers naturally last longer than others. Removing any spent blooms will also help keep your arrangement looking fresh.
